Our Truro Contract Scaffolding branch has
been successful in their bid to provide the scaffolding for
the west tower and spire of Truro Cathedral. The spire towers
245ft above the city and is in need of urgent repair to its
masonry, which has gone untouched since its construction in
1880.
The works being carried out on behalf of our client WR Bedford
were confirmed at the end of last year following the successful
award of a £400K heritage lottery grant to the Cathedral.
Led by our Branch Manager Roy Clarke, his team moved swiftly
to commence the erection of the scaffold which is scheduled
to take 3 months to complete and is worth approximately £250K.
In order for the project to be carried out a free standing
scaffold around the spire was required.
Working together Donald Gourd and Joe Lyon part of our experienced
design team based in Bristol came up with a solution which
included the addition of specialist bracing, which transmitted
the load of the free standing structure back into the main
part of the scaffold.
