The following letter was received on 6th
September 2004 from Rob Tabard, Project Execution Leader.
We are writing to you to thank you for the excellent work
just completed on our redundant Cat Reactor at the Esso Refinery,
Fawley.
Your task was to strip the insulation off
this very large vessel. The insulation consisted partly of
mineral wool but was predominantly asbestos. Over the 50 years
that the reactor was in operation, many modifications had
been made to the insulation and cladding. Unexpected additional
layers of heavy gauge cladding and unanticipated asbestos
areas were found during the work. This made the work more
difficult than expected, but was all managed professionally
by your team.
Most importantly for us the work was completed
with no injuries or incidents. For a company new to site and
with all operatives new to site as well this was a significant
achievement.
In particular we would like to single out
Peter Hopkinson who supervised the work throughout. Peter
showed great professionalism and with assistance from Mark
Pederson took the responsibility for all the safety systems,
which we employ at Fawley to deliver World Class Safety. At
the same time Peter ensured good progress was maintained.
We are pleased to present the team with the July project Safety
Award.
